How will Brexit influence Japan?

As you know, The citizen of United Kingdom decided to leave the European Union by the referendum held on June 23rd. The vote rate showed 52 per cent for leaving the EU, 48 per cent against. After the referendum, David Cameron, who had strongly been against leaving the EU, announced his resignation as the Prime Minister and the global financial market and the value of pound decreased hugely immediately. Although nobody knows what will happen from now on, it is no doubt that this historical incident will have a tremendous influence on the world, especially the global economy. Today I am going to predict how Brexit will affect my country, Japan.

The main cause by Brexit is to be going to result in the stagnation of the Japanese export industry. In fact, just after the announcement that they determined to exit from the EU, the value of the Japanese 'yen' dramatically increased to 99 yen per USD. It had been about 2 years and 7 months since the last time. One of the biggest markets in Japan is the export industry. For a long time, Japanese economy has been wealthy because of exporting many sophisticated products which thoroughly satisfy clients all over the world. In 2012, after Shinzo Abe was appointed as the Japanese Prime Minister, he focused on taking measures to promote a low exchange rate of the yen. However, it will fail by the strong yen.

According to a survey, the number of Japanese companies which have expanded their business in Britain is 931 as of 2014. The number is second in the EU only after Germany. In addition, the amount of outward FDI(Foreign Direct Investment) toward Britain is approximately 1.7 billion. This number is second in the world only after the United States of America. From this information, it is easy to speculate how much influence Brexit will have on the Japanese economy.

It is said that Britain has to take 2 years to actually leave the EU. Therefore, it may be possible that Britain corrects their statement by persuading other members of the EU not to leave the EU. All Japan has to do is that consider and prepare for any situations which will possibly occur. Japan may be forced to accept refugees much more than before by requirements from around the world since one of the reasons they concluded to leave the EU was that they could not be bothered accepting refugees any more. The Japanese acceptance rate of refugee is 0.2 per cent, which is said to be the lowest rate in the developed countries while Japan has given them immense financial support.

Influences of Brexit on Korea

As you know, recently there has been a piece of huge news, 'Brexit' which will be remembered as one of the biggest topics of the 21th century. Ironically, Winston Churchill advocated for 'One Europe', but the descendants have decided to exit from the concept 43 years after the EU was formed.

Today, I would like to introduce influences which will be caused by 'Brexit' on my country, Korea. Before getting into the topic, I want to let you know one interesting thing. After the referendum which asked British if they want to exit from EU, the most frequently searched Google keywords were 'What is the EU?' and 'What will happen after Brexit?'. The vote rate reached nearly 80 percent, but this fact shows a lot of the British didn't have enough understanding of Brexit.

After British government announced the result of the referendum, stock price indexes of major countries such as the USA, China and Japan have plunged. In addition, OECD predicts that the Britain's gross productivity will decrease by 3.3% by 2020, and in the same period, EU's will decrease by 0.9%, as well. Negative predictions are mainly streaming, but a variety of different opinions are still present among economists all around the world.

According to financial experts in Korea, the total amount of international trade being accounted for by Britain is just 3 percent, so due to this fact, the experts are predicting direct side effects caused by Brexit will be not so big. In addition, Japanese enterprises which Korean companies' big competitors that produces goods such as cars, TVs and mobile phones will suffer from the rise in the Yen's value, so some people are saying that Korean companies could get 'Reflect Effect' from that.

However, the main risk is elsewhere. If Brexit causes Global economic depression, all parts of Korea which dependent on export will also get depressed, and it directly will lead to make very slow progress. For example, these days Korean ship making companies are in dire straits. Most ship making companies have been laying off to employees and rebuilding their business structures. These kinds of situation like Brexit has a possibility to lead to decrease in ship trading, then it can make the situation worse. Moreover, in Korea, British funds that are invested are estimated at about 3 billion dollars. If the situation gets worse, the funds could return to the Britain. Not just these things, but also apparently, it will take at least two years to Brexit. Over the next 2 years, the uncertainty would contract consumption trends.

Nobody knows what will happen exactly, but we know that Brexit is historically important news. If we prepare thoroughly and cooperate with other countries, we can work out of the situation. Lastly, according to Angela Merkel, EU is smart enough to get over the situation even if Britain chooses to exit. I hope that my country minimizes the damage, and in this process of getting over it, becomes a global leader.

Montessori education

Have you heard of Montessori education ? It is a peculiar education system established by Italian educator Maria Montessori in 1907. It is well known that The United Kingdom Princes William and Henry took this education when they were young. There are many schools which have introduced the Montessori education system in New Zealand from Auckland in the north to Dunedin in the south. Today I am going to explain what Montessori education is like.

First of all, the main feature is that students will be able to improve their spirit of "independence".
Students are supposed to choose subjects they want to study and also can study them at their own pace using peculiar materials but not all classmates take the same subjects at the same time. It enables students to develop their ability to be independent and decision-making by themselves.
For instance, when students study math, they are supposed to choose a material they want to use from several options. Teachers don't teach all processes to solve math problems but how to use the material they chose or which material they should use to improve their strengths and weaknesses. The main task of teachers is to manage and maintain the environment to study while observing students. Teachers may not tell students the answers of math problems. So students have to find a path to solve them by themselves.

In summary, the features of  Montessori education are the following.

1. A class of mixed ages
There are different ages in a class. This is one of the biggest features in Montessori education.
While younger students can follow older students as a role model, older students can learn how to teach by helping younger students.

2. Elective system
As I mentioned at the beginning, students can choose subjects they want to study. This means it allows students to pursue subjects they like as much as they want. They don't need to adjust their pace for other classmates. Whereas, the subjects they are poor at can be developed slowly. They can study them at their pace until they can understand them thoroughly.

3. Flexible time allocation
Class time isn't allocated. Students also can arrange their time schedule by themselves.

Me before You: It is not only Romantic Movie :)

Me before You

This is the recent movie that I saw with my friends in this week. Many people may think it is just only romantic drama movie but for me, I think it is beyond. I don’t want to spoil about story so I will give you some of my opinions.

This movie is based on story line that a woman who lived in small village in England, she has been working in coffee shop for 6 years. One day, owner said that he had to close this shop because he cannot earn enough money. Lu (the main actress of this Movie) had to find a new job and help her family’s finance crisis. After that she got a new job to take care disable man, Will trainer. He is a thirty-one –year old man. He got an accident two years ago, so he cannot move by himself just only his head and right hand.

The point that I want to tell you is this is not happy ending but it makes inspiration even though there are many paradoxes. Will want to die because he loves his life before but he gave a great opportunity for Lu to live her new life.

He said “ Push yourself ,Don’t settle.”" Just live"

I know that some of you may travel in many places but please remember that you have only one life. You must seize the day and try your best. Don’t let yourself getting use to something for long time. If you have a dream but you have never tried it because you think you can’t, Stop thinking in that way which underestimate yourself. You have more potentials than you think.

Do and try something new and make your life unforgettable.

LCC(Low Cost Carrier)

Today, I would like to introduce problems that LCCs have been facing. In Korea, the first LCC founded 10 years ago. In aspect of creating new demands, the foundation of LCCs is considered as one of the remarkable changes in aviation business. However, there have been small and large incidents and accidents since 10 years ago. I suppose to tell you the problems especially about safety, because every other values such as sanitary and services are based on safety.

The main problem is that LCCs are introducing old-fashioned aircrafts and maintenance works are not being conducted appropriately to reduce their cost. According to Korean Ministry of Land which handles aircraft operations, international operations by LCCs has increased by 359operations from 533flights to 892flights, and the percentages of transporting passengers in Korea has already passed 50percents, but their safety consciousness level is still remaining in low state.

Last February, a flight from Manila by Jeju Air was replaced by another plane due to cracks of cockpit's window, and Jin Air landed at an alternative airport due to slightly opened door (Does it make sense?.. because of the difference of air pressure, it is impossible), so the airline was imposed on fine because of violation. Statistically, these kind of small and large incidents and accidents have been happening every other month. Compared to the fact from FAA that most accidents are caused by meteorological uncertainty, in Korea LCC business, 70percents of accidents are related to old aircrafts and not proper maintenance work. It's a quite big problem.

In my opinion, LCCs are under pressure that they should offer customers low price tickets, so I can partially understand why LCCs are hesitating to spend more money on investing on safety measures, but if they don't take any actions, it is really difficult to grow their business. Even if the ticket is really cheap, if safety is not fully guaranteed, nobody wants on board. The first, second and third value that airlines should consider is safety.

The Purpose of Making This Blog

Before I start to write about my purpose of making this blog and plan to fill in the blog, I would like to introduce one book.

Nobody can run at the first time and reach their goals at once. Obviously, everybody needs time for growing themselves. Finding examples from history is one of the easiest one. A book called 'Outlier' written by Malcom Gladewell in 2009 introduces one concept called '10000 hours rule'.

This rule encourages me to do something more and more. You can easily guess what the rule is implying and defining. If a person practices one part which the person is highly interested in for 10000 hours, the person can be an expert of that part. For examples, Beatles, Mozart and Bill Gates are the most common cases that this rule was verified. According to this book these 3 people that the public usually worship as geniuses or even more heroes who are representing their eras or generations also needed time for practicing at least 10000 hours.

The purpose of starting my own blog is here. I really love my major and the aviation business. Not only do I want to know all the knowledge related to the parts, but I also would like to systematize my knowledge here on the website.

I hope my endeavor to do my best for making a better blog will last for a long time. I like one phrase, 'Slowly but Surely' that I learned before in Kaplan. That is why I named this blog Running Sloth. Sloth cannot run but if I try to run and run, then someday I will be surprised when I look back how long I walked and crawled.

Be a running sloth.
